Renfrewshire New Business Start-Up Grant

Support provided by Renfrewshire Council Invest in Renfrewshire

What does this involve?

The New Business Start-Up Grant can provide up to 50% match funding to support small and medium-sized businesses that are starting up in Renfrewshire.

The New Business Start-Up Grant is aimed at individuals with a viable business idea who need funding support to start trading.

The grant will cover up to 50% of your eligible costs, with a maximum contribution of £300 - unless your business is moving into commercial premises, in which case the grant amount can be up to £1,000.

The grant can be used for essential business start-up costs, such as commercial rent, stock, IT equipment, website development, business equipment or the adaptation of business premises.

Grants are offered at the discretion of a Business Gateway adviser, so you must be working with Business Gateway Renfrewshire to be considered.

You must not have started the project before you apply.

The grant will be paid when the project has been completed and the supplier has been paid. This means that initially you must be able to afford the project’s full cost, until you receive your grant payment.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible if your business:

  • is a sole trader, partnership, limited liability partnership or a limited company
  • operates full time
  • provides employment for the business owner or a member of staff
  • has been trading for 3 months or less
  • operates from the Renfrewshire Council area
  • is working with a Business Gateway Adviser and you agree to attend a minimum of 3 Business Gateway start-up workshops
  • has a business bank account
  • has not spent any money on the project before receiving a formal decision on your grant application
