To provide the best services possible and ensure your enquiry is supported by the relevant Partner(s), your personal information may be shared with the Partners on a needs basis – this will depend on what kind of support you are seeking. About this privacy notice

The privacy notice will tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you. It will also give you information on how the Partners and our suppliers (when we use these) collect, use, share and look after your personal information as part of

Personal information means any information about an individual from which that individual can be identified.

Personal information includes:

  • identity data - forename, surname
  • contact data - email address, phone number

  • usage data - information about how you use our website, products and services

There is also other information that we collect, use, store and share that is not personal information, including:

For example, we may aggregate your Usage Data to calculate the percentage of users accessing on partner sites. How we collect personal information

Personal information will be collected directly from you when you use the website.

Lawful basis for processing personal information

Data Protection law says that we must have a legal ground to process your personal information. These are known as lawful grounds.

When you submit your personal information through, or where your activity is tracked on, Scottish Enterprise will process that personal information in performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of our official authority for the purposes specified in this privacy notice.

Where your personal information is shared with a Partner, that Partner will have its own lawful basis for processing your personal information. You should refer to the relevant Partner’s privacy notice for further information.

How long your personal information will be kept for will retain any personal information collected through the website for 2 months. However, when your personal information is passed to a Partner, they may keep your personal information for a different period of time, depending on what services you have asked of them. You should refer to the Partner’s privacy notice to find out more on this.

Consequences of not providing personal information

The Partners require personal information to deliver, manage and monitor enquiries submitted through, and products requested through, If you do not accept the use of your personal information for these purposes, we will not be able to answer your query or signpost you to the best support for your company. However, you will still be able to access the website and the information contained within it.


We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In some instances, this may involve transferring your personal information outside the European Economic Area (EEA). We ensure that your personal information is protected by requiring all our SDI offices and staff to follow the same rules when processing your personal information.

To provide the best services possible on an international scale, we may also share your personal information with our third-party partners outside the European Economic Area.

Where your personal information is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:

  • we will only transfer your personal information to countries that have been deemed to provide adequate level of protection for personal information by the European Commission
  • where we use certain service providers, we may use specific contracts approved by the European Commission which give personal information the same protection it has in Europe

In addition, where uses your personal information to perform tasks carried out in the public interest or in exercising official authority vested in it then, if you ask it to, will stop using that personal information unless there are overriding legitimate grounds to continue.

Restricting how we may use your information

In some cases, you may ask us to restrict how we use your personal information. This right might apply, for example, where we are checking the accuracy of personal information about you that we hold or assessing the validity of any objection you have made to to use your information.

The right might also apply if no longer have a basis for using your personal information, but you don't want to delete the data.
