The Oil & Gas Transition training fund offers financial help for current and former workers in the oil and gas sector in Scotland to reskill and upskill for a role in the:

• clean/sustainable energy sector
• wider decarbonisation of the economy sector
• advanced manufacturing sector
• life sciences sector
• defence sector

Funding will cover course costs for industry recognised courses and for courses required by employers to access roles in the identified sectors. The roles are not restricted to technical roles and can include support function roles.

Funding will only cover costs for courses that haven’t started.

Where funding does not cover the full course cost you can top up with your own or your employers money. 

Training needs to take place in UK or online.

All training needs completed by 31 March 2027.

Payment will be made directly to the training provider(s) on evidence of completion of training. Training must be approved before you book it. 

Yes, if you:

• currently work in the oil and gas sector
• have worked in the oil and gas sector within the last 24 months
• are a career returner
• are resident in Scotland
• have the right to live and work in the UK

Funding is not available to applicants that received funding training from the Oil and Gas Transition Training fund pilot during 2025/26. 

Funding is not available for the recertification of existing skills. 

It is free to apply for funding. 

Existing and former oil and gas sector workers. 

As part of your application, you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible for the fund.

Funding will only cover the training and not any other expenses including travel and accommodation. 

All training and any relevant assessments must be completed by 31 March 2027.
