Boosting capital investment implementation grant

Support provided by Scottish Enterprise

What does this involve?

This grant provides funding to help businesses put a planned capital investment into place, including the introduction of new or improved equipment, infrastructure, technology or processes that improve productivity, competitiveness and business performance.

The grant is for implementation activity only. It does not support early ideas or feasibility work. The business must already have a clear capital investment planned. The grant does not fund the purchase of capital assets themselves. It supports the work needed to put that investment in place or improve how it performs.

Grants are available from £15,000 to £100,000 per project.

The grant can cover up to 30% of eligible project costs. The remaining costs must be met by the business through other sources.

Businesses will also need to pay for the project upfront, then submit a claim for the eligible project costs by an agreed date to receive the grant.

The funding is only available during the current financial year. Projects normally run for up to 12 months and must complete within the available funding period. All supported activity must finish by the agreed project end date.

Funding is provided as a grant and awarded under Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA) rules, which limit the total amount of public funding a business can receive.

Am I eligible?

A business is eligible if it:

  • is based in Scotland
  • is supported through Scottish Enterprise's account management or specialist support services
  • has a minimum of 10 employees
  • is based in an area of Scotland served by Scottish Enterprise - that is, Aberdeen City and Shire, the east of Scotland, Tayside and the west of Scotland
  • has a clear capital investment planned

The grant can cover up to 30% of eligible project costs. Eligible costs include:

  • internal staff time
  • consultants (not on payroll)
  • temporary specialist (on payroll) or graduate placement (on payroll)
  • project materials
  • intellectual property costs
  • subcontracted activities

The costs must be directly needed to deliver, implement or optimise a planned capital investment and improve productivity or business performance.

What does this cost?

There is no cost to apply.

Who is this for?

Small and medium-sized businesses and early stage companies based in Scotland.

How long does this take?

A Scottish Enterprise account manager or specialist adviser will explain the process in more detail once your eligibility has been confirmed.

Important information

This grant does not support feasibility studies, exploratory work or activity that is not directly linked to delivering or optimising a specific capital investment.

The grant does not fund the purchase of capital assets themselves. It supports the work needed to put that investment in place or to improve how it performs.

Businesses should already have a clear investment proposal and be ready to move into delivery.
