Destination Leaders Programme

What does this involve?

The Destination Leadership Programme is a 6-month, part-time CPD course which brings you together with like-minded individuals to learn more about leadership within your own tourism organisation and/or within your destination.

By taking part in this online course, you can:

  • improve your leadership skills and knowledge
  • learn more about destination development and leadership
  • consider your customer journey from start to finish
  • understand market trends and drivers for sustainable growth
  • identify your stakeholders and partners and how you can work collaboratively with others
  • look at innovative ways to deliver new products, services and experience for market resilience

This course is delivered through Edinburgh Napier University.

Am I eligible?

This online course is open to individuals from tourism businesses and organisations across Scotland.

Participation is based on an application process through Edinburgh Napier University.

You must currently have a key and active role in the business. You must also be able to show ambition, commitment and passion for developing yourself, your business and your destination, and demonstrate this in a personal statement submitted with your application.

 

 

What does this cost?

As part of the Scottish Tourism Leadership Programme supported by the Scottish Government in response to COVID-19, this course is fully funded.

However, there will be a cost in terms of your time away from your business/organisation.

Who is this for?

Individuals in tourism businesses and organisations across Scotland. 

How long does this take?

You will be expected to participate in 12 one-day workshops, which take place 2 or 3 weeks apart. You must attend at least 80% of the programme.

You will also be expected to participate in a group project, which will be assessed.

All 12 workshops will be delivered between 21 October 2021 and 22 March 2022.

 

Important information

There will be 3 cohorts with a maximum of 25 participants. Cohorts will include a mix of tourism businesses from a geographical area focused on a specific urban area (Glasgow/Edinburgh and Dundee/Aberdeen) or pan-Scotland.

Applications are now open for all 3 cohorts:

  • Glasgow/Edinburgh - you must apply by 13 October 2021
  • Aberdeen/Dundee - you must apply by 28 October 2021
  • Pan-Scotland - you must apply by 1 November 2021
