What does this involve?
The Data Skills for Work programme aims to help people across Lothian, Fife and the Scottish Borders. It gives them the skills to take advantage of data-driven innovation, trains them for changing roles and prepares them for the jobs of the future. Their ambition is to enhance the local labour market with a range of data skills – including increasing opportunities for workers in jobs that are being changed by automation plus women returners, people with disabilities and BAME communities.
The programme is for people and businesses who are looking for training in data analytics, data science, and other data-related activities. It will signpost them to relevant courses provided by local colleges, universities and other online and face-to-face training and education providers.
Data Skills Portal
- this online portal will outline career pathways and training options, which will be accessible across the region. It will include a self-assessment against job profiles and links to the relevant courses and training options.
Data Skills Credits
- this scheme will provide small training grants (up to £500 per learner) to develop the necessary data skills to gain meaningful employment and progression as part of the data-driven economy. This could include training offered by further and higher education institutions, apprenticeships and by private training providers.
Data Adoption
- this will offer leadership training and ongoing support from The Data Lab for the adoption of Data-Driven Innovation and planning for a data-literate workforce.
