What does this involve?
This one-hour online briefing helps business leaders understand what artificial intelligence (AI) is, how it could benefit their organisation, and what steps they can take next.
It offers executives a clear overview of the AI landscape, including practical examples and guidance on identifying opportunities within a small or medium-sized business (SME).
The session is delivered by The Data Lab’s professional development team as part of the National AI Adoption Programme for SMEs. It covers:
- AI basics, including current trends, definitions and types of AI
- the importance of data quality for AI
- real examples of how businesses are using AI
- potential benefits and risks for SMEs
- guidance on possible next steps using the AI Adoption Framework
The briefing will be delivered online on Wednesday 4 March 2026 from 10am to 11am.
There is a limit of 2 participants per organisation for each session.
This service is funded by the Scottish Government as part of the National AI Adoption Programme.
Am I eligible?
You're eligible if your organisation:
- is a small to medium-sized business (SME) or social enterprise
- is based in Scotland
- meets the Scottish Government definition of an SME (that is, it has fewer than 250 employees)
- is led by senior managers, owners or directors who can attend the session
Priority may be given to organisations that:
- are based in rural areas
- are owned, operated by, or serving marginalised communities
- are part of the foundational economy or traditional sectors
The sessions are aimed at senior managers, owners and directors. There is a limit of 2 participants per organisation for each session.

This is a free service.
Who is this for?
Senior managers, owners and directors of small to medium-sized businesses and social enterprises in Scotland.
How long does this take?
The application form takes only a few minutes to complete. You'll receive a response within 5 working days.
The briefing session itself lasts one hour.
