What does this involve?
This workshop will discuss the Toyota Production System (TPS), which is Toyota’s methodology for achieving high operational performance and is widely admired throughout the world. This approach can help your business become more competitive and efficient by reducing cost, waste and effort.
The programme is run by Scottish Enterprise’s Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS) and will take place over 1.5 days on 3 and 4 October 2023 at Toyota’s Burnaston site.
Toyota has approximately 2,500 employees at this 580 acre site, which produces approximately 106,000 Corolla Hybrid vehicles a year.
This programme will explore several key areas of Toyota's operations, including:
- Toyota's philosophy and basic thinking
- customer-driven focus
- continuous improvement
- the importance of stability
- an overview of TPS
- the continuous flow process and benefits of standardised work
- production planning and the pull system
- human resources for a lean environment
There will also be 2 networking dinners during the visit. The Tuesday evening dinner will include group leaders and coaches from Toyota.
Four weeks after the workshop, participants will also be offered a one-on-one reflection session with a SMAS practitioner to discuss individual opportunities. A group session to share learning with other participants will also be arranged after 8 weeks. These sessions are optional and you can discuss exact timings during the workshop.
Places on the programme are limited, so you'll be asked to complete a short application with your company details and why you wish to attend.
Your company should also be engaged or willing to engage with Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, South of Scotland Enterprise or SMAS.
Applications must be submitted by 28 September 2023.
Am I eligible?
Manufacturing businesses with the ambition to change, develop and grow are eligible. Places are limited, so applicants will be asked to complete a short application with their company details and why they wish to attend.
Applicants should be (one of the following):
- a managing director
- a plant manager
- executive management
- an operations leader
- a production leader
- a lean leader
- an improvement manager
Your company should also be engaged or willing to engage with Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, South of Scotland Enterprise or SMAS.
What does this cost?
The programme costs £895 plus VAT per person. You will be invoiced directly by Scottish Enterprise or the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service.
This price includes:
- accommodation for 2 nights at a hotel close to the Toyota site
- 2 networking dinners
- lunch
- travel from the hotel to the Toyota site and back
Participants will need to arrange their own travel to the hotel.
Who is this for?
Manufacturing businesses engaged with Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise or SMAS that are interested in increasing their operational performance.
How long does this take?
The application form will take no more than 30 minutes to complete.
Application forms must be submitted by 28 September 2023.
The workshop will take place over 1.5 days on 3 and 4 October 2023. You should plan to arrive on 2 October in the evening and return early in the afternoon on 4 October. You'll receive exact timings after your place is confirmed.
Participants will be offered 2 follow-up sessions after the workshop. These will take place 4 weeks and 8 weeks after the workshop. These sessions are optional and you can discuss exact timings during the workshop.
Important information
Participants will need to arrange their own travel to the hotel. You should plan to arrive on 2 October in the evening and return early in the afternoon on 4 October. You'll receive exact timings after your place is confirmed.
