Water Innovation Grant

What does this involve?

The funding will let businesses work with a consultant to assess if it's feasible to carry out a water-related project. This project can be related to new products or processes that reduce costs and improve efficiency at your business premises.

This grant is only available to companies based in Scotland that are working with a Scottish Enterprise sustainability or innovation specialist. You can only apply for the grant through these specialists.

The budget available will support a maximum of 10 projects.

Water-related projects can include:

  • water technology
  • water supply
  • distribution and wastewater treatment
  • energy recovery and hydro-electric
  • aquaculture

The grant will cover up to 70% of your eligible project costs. The maximum grant amount is £10,000.

The grant can be used to pay for independent consultants to:

  • carry out market and customer research and testing, opportunity analysis and a market assessment
  • understand project feasibility by identifying and appraising options and preparing a business case for investment
  • help understand the efficiency and effectiveness of resources and processes
  • conduct initial research and design of a new product or service for new or existing markets 

Am I eligible?

This grant is only available to companies based in Scotland that are working with a Scottish Enterprise sustainability or innovation specialist. You can only apply for the grant through these specialists.

Potential recipients will be invited to apply after an initial conversation with one of Scottish Enterprise’s sustainability or innovation specialists.

What does this cost?

The grant will cover up to 70% of your eligible project costs. The maximum grant amount is £10,000.

Companies must pay 30% of the consultancy costs themselves, plus 100% of any costs above the maximum grant amount of £10,000.

You will also need to pay for the project upfront, then submit a claim for your eligible costs by 31 March 2024. Any claim received after this date cannot be paid.

How long does this take?

All activity must be completed and claims received by 31 March 2024. Any claim received after this date cannot be paid.
