Glasgow City Council provides 'meanwhile use' grants for businesses and organisations to enhance the look and feel of vacant properties in Glasgow city centre.

These grants are intended to help bring unused or vacant property back into productive use. This could involve businesses moving into physical premises on a short-term lease or using the properties as pop-up shops or for creative or cultural purposes.

The grants are aimed at businesses and organisations that are looking to occupy their first building or unit in Glasgow city centre.

Up-and-coming, innovative businesses that have unique products, events, or experiences to offer are encouraged to apply.

The grants are offered as part of the Glasgow City Centre Improvement Grant Fund.

Any organisation based within the Glasgow city centre boundaries can apply, including:

• businesses
• social enterprises
• creative and cultural groups
• community councils
• any constituted organisations   

The grants cannot be used to fund:

• political projects or election campaigns
• day-to-day expenses
• prizes or competitions
• staff costs
• projects that would be more appropriately funded from other sources

You can only apply to this fund once in any 12-month period.

The grant will cover up to 100% of the eligible costs of a project, to a maximum of £20,000. You will need to cover any additional costs through other sources.

You'll discuss and agree with Glasgow City Council how the grant will be paid during the approval process.

After you apply, you'll receive a copy of your application as confirmation. You'll then be contacted directly within 20 working days.

If you are applying to this fund as part of a larger funding package for your project, you must have the other funding in place before you apply for this grant.

You can only apply to this fund once in any 12-month period.
