Dumfries and Galloway new business start-up grant

Support provided by Dumfries and Galloway Council

What does this involve?

Due to a high volume of applications, this fund is currently closed. The Enterprise Seed Fund start-up grant is a discretionary grant of £1,500. It is available to support new businesses in Dumfries and Galloway that are about to start trading or that have been trading for less than 12 months.

The Enterprise Seed Fund has been designed as a sustainable business development grant to support start-up projects that will help grow the rural economy.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their need for funding and show there will be no negative effect on other Dumfries and Galloway businesses as a result of the funding.

Priority will be given to projects that will:

  • create employment opportunities in the local area
  • support communities in fragile rural areas
  • contribute significantly to the local economy

The grant can be used for:

  • the purchase of new equipment
  • shop or workshop fit-outs
  • web development
  • marketing materials

The grant cannot be used for:

  • patenting
  • intellectual property
  • property redecoration alone
  • legal or statutory fees or charges
  • working capital
  • wage subsidy
  • debt repayment
  • stock and consumables
  • general running costs of the business

The grant is delivered by Dumfries and Galloway Council's Business Gateway team. All applicants must register with Business Gateway to receive guidance on submitting their application.

This fund will close to new applications on 31 January 2023 or when the budget is fully allocated (whichever is earlier). Due to the high volume of enquiries, this fund may close at any time. It may also take longer than usual to speak to an adviser.
