Dumfries and Galloway Net Zero Transition Fund

Support provided by Dumfries and Galloway Council

What does this involve?

Due to a high volume of applications, this fund is currently closed. Dumfries and Galloway Council's Net Zero Transition Fund offers a grant of up to £3,000 to businesses located in the region. It can be used for anything that will help the business move toward operating with net zero carbon emissions. It is a non-repayable grant that is paid as soon as it's approved, so businesses do not need to cover costs upfront and reclaim the money later.

Suggested uses include:

  • improvements to building fabric and equipment, such as:
    • heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades
    • installing renewable heat technologies, such as an air source heat pump or biomass boiler
    • improvements to insulation, draught-proofing or adding double or secondary glazing
    • installing LED lighting
    • installing solar panels, wind turbines or wood-burning stoves
  • the creation of green jobs, which are “decent jobs that contribute to, preserve, or restore the environment...in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, or in new, emerging green sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency”, according to the Internal Labour Organisation (ILO)
  • waste minimisation, recovery and reprocessing through:
    • projects that reduce waste production
    • the installation of equipment to help recover and reprocess waste streams
    • projects that close the loop on resources that would otherwise be wasted (circular economy)

Grant awards will be decided by a panel of advisers on a case-by-case basis.

The initiative will operate on a first-come, first-served basis until all funding is spent. If not already closed, the fund will close to new applications on 28 February 2023.

Due to the high volume of enquiries, this fund may close at any time. It may also take longer than usual to speak to an adviser.

The grant is delivered by Dumfries and Galloway Council's Business Gateway team.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible if you are:

  • an existing business that operates from a registered trading address in the Dumfries and Galloway Council area
  • the owner or majority shareholder of the business, who can sign on its behalf

All business sectors and commercial types are eligible, including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

What does this cost?

There is no cost to apply for the fund. You do not need to pay back the grant.

The grant will be paid out as soon as it's approved, so you will not need to cover costs and reclaim the money later. However, you should keep all receipts, as you may be asked to produce receipts that show the supplier, items purchased and cost as part of the council’s auditing process.

Who is this for?

Dumfries and Galloway-based businesses with a trading address in the region.

How long does this take?

This fund will close to new applications on 28 February 2023, or when the budget is fully allocated (whichever is earlier). Due to the high volume of enquiries, this fund may close at any time. It may also take longer than usual to speak to an adviser.

You'll be informed of the outcome of your application within 15 working days of submitting your final application.

If your application is successful, you'll have 7 working days to accept the grant offer in writing, along with any conditions.
