Covid-19 Residential Outdoor Education Centre Recovery Fund

Support provided by Scottish Government

What does this involve?

Round 1 has closed and Round 2 is not going ahead due to lockdown restrictions. Check the YouthLink website for updates.

This fund is for third sector and private sector outdoor education centres in Scotland that have been financially impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It aims to keep outdoor centres in business and to allow centre staff to support outdoor learning in schools and other formal education settings.

Centres must have been providing activities before March 2020 to be able to apply.

The fund, administered by YouthLink Scotland, will have 2 rounds.

Round 1

This will support residential outdoor education centres to manage financial losses until June 2021, the end of the academic year in Scotland. This fund can support:

  • essential non-staff running costs
  • staff costs integral to the continued operation of the centre as long as these costs cannot be met by other income streams
  • staff costs associated with planning bids for Round Two of this fund as long as these costs cannot be met by other income streams

This approach takes into account the UK Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the Furlough Scheme) which can support the payment of staff costs until the end of March 2021.

Round 1 closed at 1pm on 11 December 2020

Round 2

This will fund centre-employed staff to deliver outdoor learning with schools and other formal education settings during the remainder of the 2020/21 academic year. Providers will be invited to apply in partnership with schools or other formal education settings

Round 2 is not going ahead due to current lockdown restrictions in Scotland. Visit the YouthLink Scotland website for updates.

Am I eligible?

The fund is open to residential outdoor education centres that:

  • are located in Scotland
  • operate in the third sector or private sector
  • routinely provided residential outdoor education opportunities for young people aged 3 – 18 from formal education settings before March 2020
  • can demonstrate a negative financial impact due to a lack of residential activity since the emergence of the current pandemic

Full eligibility criteria and details of what kinds of activity can and cannot be supported by the fund are available in the guidance.
