What does this involve?
Scottish Enterprise provides a tailored account management service for ambitious businesses in Scotland that demonstrate they can make a significant contribution to creating a fairer and greener economy.
A dedicated account manager will help you to:
- develop your business strategy
- build strong, effective leadership and management
- develop a plan to invest in and increase productivity
- identify available funding
- increase innovation in your business
- achieve international growth
- connect with industry networks that are relevant to your future ambitions
The service will also help your business to:
- prepare for and attract appropriate growth investment
- improve productivity
- increase innovation in your products, processes, business models and workplaces
- achieve international growth
- grow and become more resilient
To be account-managed, your company should:
- focus on achieving growth and contributing to the Scottish economy
- create or retain quality jobs in Scotland that pay at least the Real Living Wage
- commit to achieving net zero carbon emissions
The account management service is not open to all companies, but Scottish Enterprise works closely with partners – including Business Gateway, innovation centres and regional incubators and accelerators – and may direct you to one of these partners if appropriate.
Am I eligible?
Your business must be based in the area covered by Scottish Enterprise. This includes Aberdeen City and Shire, the east of Scotland, Tayside and the west of Scotland.
This service is not available to companies based in the Highlands and Islands and South of Scotland regions.
You’ll need to be at least one of the following:
- an entrepreneur in the early stages of developing an innovation-driven, high-growth startup or university spinout
- an early-stage business that’s less than 5 years old, with ambitions to:
- scale at pace
- raise significant external growth finance and investment
- an established small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) with 10 to 250 employees and a proposed business project that will:
- improve turnover and productivity
- invest in your assets and people
- innovate and develop your products and services
- a large, strategically important Scottish-owned company (with more than 250 employees in Scotland)
- a company with significant global operations
Sole traders should speak to Business Gateway for advice.
Scottish Enterprise does not work with companies in restricted sectors such as sub-prime lending, gambling, adult entertainment, activities with adverse impact on human rights, tobacco and locally traded services.
In line with advice from the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise will not knowingly work with, support or advise any individual or business that has:
- trading or investment links to Russia or Belarus
- engaged in military trading with Israel or Myanmar
You must comply with Scottish Enterprise's fair work conditions and show an interest in achieving net zero carbon emissions to take part in the programme.
What does this cost?
This is a free service.
Who is this for?
Companies based in the area covered by Scottish Enterprise – that is, Aberdeen City and Shire, the east of Scotland, Tayside and the west of Scotland.
How long does this take?
Your account management will not have a predetermined end date. Instead, the arrangement will be reviewed on an annual basis.
Important information
To apply, you’ll need to provide information including:
- your employee numbers
- turnover
- the date your business was established
- details of any existing contact with Scottish Enterprise
