What does this involve?
Home Energy Scotland offers free, expert, impartial support and advice for registered private landlords in Scotland who would like to improve the energy efficiency of their rental properties.
These improvements make properties more attractive to tenants and reduce maintenance issues such as damp, ultimately adding to the property's value. They can also increase the rating on the property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
Whether you're looking to discuss your property's EPC, talk through the various funding options or have your property assessed in depth, Home Energy Scotland can help. This free, impartial advice service is funded by the Scottish Government and supported by a network of specialist advisors operating across Scotland.
If a property visit is appropriate, a specialist adviser will carry out an assessment and provide a tailored report that outlines:
- the current energy demands of the property
- recommended improvements that offer more detail than the property’s EPC
- different scenarios to improve the energy efficiency of the property
- the approximate cost of making these improvements
- potential fuel bill and carbon savings
- the estimated improvement to the EPC rating
The specialist will talk you through the report, to help you decide what’s right for you and your property. They can also advise if you'd be eligible for financial support, for example from the Scottish Government's Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan or the Smart Export Guarantee.
Am I eligible?
Any private rented sector landlord in Scotland can enquire about support, but only those that are registered on the Scottish Landlord Registry are eligible for the financial support.
What does this cost?
This is a free service.
Who is this for?
Private rented sector landlords in Scotland.
How long does this take?
After you contact the Home Energy Scotland advice service, a specialist adviser will aim to be in touch within a couple of weeks.
You and the adviser will have an in-depth discussion, which could take up to an hour or more depending on the number of properties you have. This may be followed by a property visit at a time that's convenient for you.
