Data and AI transformation course for SMEs

What does this involve?

This 2-day course for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Scotland helps business leaders assess their organisation’s readiness for data and artificial intelligence (AI).

You'll explore how to identify AI opportunities, match them with your business goals, and develop a clear, responsible data and AI strategy.

The course is held in-person in central Edinburgh. It will be held over 2 full days on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 January 2026 between 10am and 4pm. Lunch will be provided.

The course is delivered by The Data Lab as part of the National AI Adoption Programme funded by the Scottish Government.

Am I eligible?

You're eligible if your organisation:

  • is a small to medium-sized business (SME) or social enterprise 
  • is based in Scotland
  • meets the Scottish Government definition of an SME (that is, it has fewer than 250 employees)
  • has professionals or leaders responsible for AI, data, or digital transformation

Priority may be given to organisations that:

  • are based in rural areas
  • are owned, operated by, or serving marginalised communities
  • are part of foundational or traditional sectors

What does this cost?

The course is free to attend and lunch will be provided. You'll need to cover any costs involved in travelling to Edinburgh.

Who is this for?

Leaders and managers of small to medium-sized businesses and social enterprises in Scotland.

How long does this take?

It only takes a few minutes to fill out the application form.

You'll find out if you have a place or are on the waitlist status within 5 working days.

The course itself will run for 12 hours over 2 full days, including lunch breaks.
