Upload documents online to Companies House

Support provided by Companies House

What does this involve?

Companies House has developed a service to let businesses upload documents online as an emergency response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Until now, you could only submit paper forms by post or in person at a Companies House office. The new service allows you to upload a number of completed forms electronically and submit them directly and instantly.

View the list of documents you can now submit online.

The service helps to protect the welfare of customers and employees by reducing in-person contact. Also, because Companies House has reduced the number of staff in their offices due to COVID restrictions, it takes longer to process paper documents. The new service helps reduce delays and save time, especially during peak filing times when many companies are submitting their accounts before the deadline.

Am I eligible?

Yes, if you are required to submit one of the documents eligible for online filing.

What does this cost?

This is a free service.

Who is this for?

Businesses who need to file documents with Companies House.

How long does this take?

It normally takes around 15 minutes to submit a document using the online service.

Important information

Be sure to check your deadline and file your accounts in plenty of time. Filing online can help reduce delays.

This service will not be available for Companies House documents you can already submit online. You must use the existing online services to:

  • File your accounts
  • File your confirmation statement
  • Make changes to your company
  • Close your company

Note that you must submit supporting evidence with certain documents. View the full guidance for details.

You must file accounts even if your company is dormant.
