What does this involve?
Pathways to Start is a free 6-week programme to help people from underrepresented groups develop a business idea in Moray, and Argyll and Bute.
You’ll receive a mix of tailored one-to-one support and group training, delivered by experienced mentors. You’ll learn how to plan and grow a business and connect with others on a similar journey.
Participants will:
- get certified training from experienced mentors
- learn practical skills to help you start and run a business
- become part of a supportive community
- get ongoing mentoring support
You could also receive up to £1,000 in funding to help develop your business idea, and up to £500 to help cover expenses so you can take part in the programme.
Am I eligible?
Yes, if you:
- live in the Moray Council area or Argyll and Bute (excluding Helensburgh and Lomond) – you can see the full list of eligible postcodes on the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) website
- identify as part of an underrepresented group in business, such as:
- women
- young people
- carers
- people with disabilities
- neurodivergent people
- ethnic minorities
- LGBTQ+ people
- people on low incomes
- refugees
- ex-military
- ex-offenders
- people with care experience
- speakers of minority languages such as Gaelic or Scots
- people affected by domestic abuse
What does this cost?
The programme is free. There may be travel costs associated with attending, but you could receive up to £500 to help with expenses.
Who is this for?
Individuals in Moray, Argyll and Bute who are from underrepresented groups and interested in learning how to develop a business idea.
How long does this take?
The deadline to apply is 11:59pm on Friday 5 December 2025. You'll find out if you've been accepted by 11:59pm on Friday 19 December 2025.
The 6-week training course will take place between 1 January 2026 and 31 March 2026.
