What does this involve?
This 5-phase programme helps Scottish deep tech companies progress from initial feasibility studies through to scaling internationally.
Deep tech companies develop manufactured products and processes that are based on scientific or engineering breakthroughs and include intellectual property.
Examples include companies that work on:
- robotics
- photonics
- medical technology
- subsea systems
- advanced materials
The first phase of the programme aims to identify promising companies and build a group environment to support them. In this phase, companies are expected to match with potential partners and discuss feasibility.
During phase 1, your deep tech company will get:
- tailored support from Scottish Enterprise, the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland, and the National Robotarioum
- access to a network of potential technical and commercial collaborators
The tailored support can include:
- technical and manufacturing guidance
- investment readiness support
- help with supply chain mapping
- international research and development (R&D) collaboration
Scottish Enterprise is also looking for companies that would like to join its pool of strategic programme partners. This will be made up of technical, manufacturing, design or investment organisations that are interested in unlocking new commercial opportunities.
These strategic partners will connect with participating deep tech companies and help shape projects.
All deep tech companies and potential strategic partners must submit an expression of interest by midday on 24 October 2025 to take part.
Am I eligible?
Yes, if you are (one of the following):
- a deep tech company that is currently developing a product and is ready to scale
- a technical, manufacturing, design or investment organisation interested in unlocking new commercial opportunities by becoming a strategic partner
To be eligible, deep tech companies must be based in Scotland.
Strategic partners may be based outwith Scotland but must be committed to supporting Scottish companies.
What does this cost?
It is free to attend the programme. You'll need to cover other costs associated with product and process development undertaken during this period.
Who is this for?
Deep tech, technical, manufacturing, design or investment businesses based in or looking to relocate to Scotland.
How long does this take?
You'll receive a response to your expression of interest by 14 November 2025.
Once your company is accepted into the programme, you'll be able to progress through all the phases based on your individual needs and readiness. The entire programme normally takes between 6 and 18 months to complete, but this can vary significantly depending on your goal and circumstances.
The time you'll need to spend on the programme is flexible and will be adjusted on an individual basis to make sure your experience is as valuable and manageable as possible.
