What does this involve?
The third window of the £34 million Scottish Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (SIETF) is now open. This offers an opportunity for industrial sites with high energy use to develop their proposals into applications for match-funded government grants to support their transition to a low-carbon future.
SIETF will help the industry to cut energy bills by investing in more efficient technologies while reducing emissions by bringing down the costs and risks associated with investing in decarbonisation technologies.
The SIETF currently consists of 2 competitions, with funding from 2021 to 2026. These are as follows:
Competition 1 – Deployment
To support the use of readily available energy efficiency technologies that improve the energy efficiency of industrial processes and reduce energy demand; and/or to support the decarbonisation of industrial processes, for example through fuel switching.
Competition 2 – Studies
To support feasibility and engineering studies on energy efficiency or deeper decarbonisation, such as through fuel switching.
Competition 2a – Options Appraisals
To support options appraisals to assess how different decarbonisation technologies could be applied or deployed.
Competition 2 is now closed - the deadline to apply was 5pm on 18 November 2022.
The deadline to apply for competition 1 is 5pm on 30 November 2022.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for this competition, the lead applicant must carry out an eligible industrial process. The business SIC code should fall into the following categories:
- manufacturing SIC codes 10000 to 33200
- data centre SIC code 63110
- mining and quarrying SIC codes 05101 to 05200, 07100 to 08900 and 09900
- recovery and recycling of materials SIC code 38320
Please visit the Scottish Government's SEITF guidance page for full eligibility criteria.
What does this cost?
The SIETF will incentivise investment in existing sectors by providing match funding for proposals.
