What does this involve?

The Rapid Response fund supports collaborative research and development projects in the field of aquaculture.

Applicants must be a consortium that includes industry and academic partners, and must fall within at least one of the following areas of research:

  • fish health and welfare
  • aquaculture industry capacity
  • shellfish and other non-finfish species

This is a fast-tracked process for projects that will help the aquaculture sector adapt to a new commercial and operational reality in the months and years ahead. The Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) will provide a package of up to £50,000 to successful applicants.

Business partners will be expected to match or exceed the investment through financial and in-kind contributions.

The Rapid Response projects should have a duration of less than one year, with at least one consortium partner based in Scotland.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for Rapid Response funding, projects must:

  • have at least one industry partner, with a registered office in Scotland
  • involve at least one Scottish Higher Education Institution
  • have a maximum grant request of £50,000
  • be completed within 12 months of funding agreement

They must also fall within one of the following areas:

  • improving fish health and welfare
  • increasing the aquaculture industry's capacity for development
  • the production of shellfish and other non-finfish species

What does this cost?

Applying for Rapid Response funding is free.

Who is this for?

This fund is for aquaculture R&D project teams that include Scottish businesses and Scottish higher education institutions.

The aquaculture project proposals must be able to demonstrate innovation and value to the sector.

How long does this take?

You will receive a decision within 10 weeks of submitting your full project application.

This is an ongoing, rolling call for projects, with no application deadline. The call is competitive, with the strongest project applications funded.
