What does this involve?
The Youth Music Initiative (YMI) Strengthening Youth Music fund is open to a wide range of creative organisations, businesses and individuals based in Scotland. It provides funding for projects that improve the youth music sector infrastructure and the services that organisers offer. It supports strategic action, research or training that will strengthen the youth music sector in Scotland for the benefit of children and young people. Applicants can apply for between £1,000 and £20,000, for up to 1 year of activity.
Examples of activities that Creative Scotland might support include (but are not limited to):
- partnership working between formal and non-formal sectors to support networking at local or national level
- research projects that develop new approaches or methods of working and proposals that explore ways to create opportunities for children and young people to progress through partnerships between formal and non-formal sectors
- development of technology that will widen access to music for children and young people
- development of and pooling of resources that will widen access to music for children and young people
- conferences, seminars or events to share good practice or explore issues relevant to the youth music sector
There will be two rounds of Strengthening Youth Music funding:
Round 1
- Applications open: Wednesday 27 April 2022 at 2pm
- Deadline: Wednesday 1 June 2022 at 2pm
Round 2
- Applications open: Tuesday 20 September 2022 at 2pm
- Deadline: Tuesday 25 October at 2pm
Am I eligible?
Yes, if you are an organisation or individual based in Scotland that delivers programmes within Scotland for the benefit of children and young people.
Applications will not be accepted from:
- schools and/or their associated organisations, such as Parent Teacher Associations
- local authority music services

How long does this take?
Round 1
- Deadline: Wednesday 1 June 2022 at 2pm
- Decisions: Monday 22 August 2022
Round 2
- Deadline: Tuesday 25 October 2022 at 2pm
- Decisions: Monday 20 January 2023
Important information
Funded activity may begin from September 2022 (Round 1) and February 2023 (Round 2).
